The Human Resource Department of the Town of Barrington is responsible for all aspects of Personnel Management. Our goal is to provide excellent service to our diverse municipal workforce, departments and the general public. We accomplish this by providing managers with employment services, consultative advice, policy and procedural guidelines, and employee motivation and development tools. Police / Fire Dispatcher

Full Time & Part Time

Receive routine and emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other services. Determine the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police, fire ambulance or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.

Candidate must have excellent computer / data entry skills (IMC preferred), be able to multitask and have good customer service skills.

Full time position is 4 days on with 2 days off. Hours are 11:30 PM until 7:30 AM (must be flexible to cover other shifts in emergencies). Starting salary is $35,705 plus benefits.

Part time positon is 2 day son with 4 days off. Hours are 11:30 PM until 7:30 AM. Additional hours may be available.Hourly rate is $18.00 with no benefits.

Summer 2017 GIS Internship Position

The Town of Barrington, Rhode Island is interested in hiring a college student with Geographical Information System (GIS) background for a summer internship. The position will be for approximately 30 to 35 hours per week between May/early June and August 2017. The compensation for the internship is $11-15 per hour, based upon experience and education.

Under the direction of a designated supervisor, the intern will provide program support for improvements to the Town’s GIS database with respect to the infrastructure under the authority of the Department of Public Works. The position offers the experience of working in an engineering driven environment with exposure to GIS and IT technologies. The position may involve fieldwork to obtain infrastructure data or related duties as required. The intern will be expected to work independently but with the goals and objectives established by the supervisor.

The following skills are required:
A moderately advanced understanding of ArcGIS, including adding Excel spreadsheets and scanned images to ArcMap
Experience with Microsoft office Excel
Strong data entry and quality control ability
Excellent organizational skills
Positive attitude and good communication skills
The ability to obtain data from engineering documents
